Changing Security Zones in IE
There are 5 levels of security setting available for each Internet Explorer security zone.
These levels are (from least secure to most secure):
- Low
- Medium-Low (default for Local Intranet)
- Medium (default level for Trusted Sites)
- Medium-High (default for Internet or unclassified sites)
- High (default for Restricted Sites)
How to Change the Default Security Level For a Zone
To change the default security level for any zone, perform the following steps:
- Open Internet Explorer
- On the Tools menu, select Internet Options
- Select the tab labeled Security
- Select the zone which you want to change the default security level
- Slide the bar to the security level that you want to use for that particular zone
- Click Apply
- Click OK
** Note that not all security levels are available for each zone.
How to Manually Edit Security Settings for a Security Zone
To customize security options for a security zone in Internet Explorer:
(Note: this is only recommended for advanced users)
- Open Internet Explorer
- On the Tools menu, select Internet Options
- Select the tab labeled Security
- Select the zone which you want to edit the settings
- Click Custom level…
- Make desired changes
- Click OK
- Click Apply
- Click OK
- You need to close your browser and restart for changes to take effect
